Phytosanitary
Defense

The phytosanitary defense must be implemented by using, in the smallest possible quantity (only if necessary and at the lowest doses), the products with the least impact on man and the environment chosen from those with sufficient efficacy characteristics to obtain the defense of the productions. economically acceptable levels and taking into account their persistence.
To be privileged are the biological agronomic techniques able to guarantee the lowest environmental impact, within the framework of sustainable agriculture. The use of synthetic chemicals will be limited to cases where an effective biological or agronomic alternative is not available.
This choice involves many difficulties, since the products with insecticide action allowed in olive growing with a low environmental impact, in particular in organic olive growing, are small and not always effective.
The final objective is therefore to safeguard the delicate natural balances of the agricultural environment, acting mainly in a preventive key and using the chemical control method only as a last resort.
The observation of the seasonal trend of the olive fly infestation will be carried out by the technicians of the organization through both phenological surveys and capture and verification of the infestation.

The technical staff, appointed by Oleum Sicilia, will have the task of monitoring the olive farms periodically. The information collected from the field surveys (number of weekly catches, phenological stage of the insect and plants, etc.) will be included in the weekly Phytosanitary Bulletins and published in the following list (most recent at the top):
