The international workshop promoted by Unaprol – Consortium Olivicolo Italiano – “The role of consumers in the world olive oil market” took place on the morning of April 9th at Vinitaly – SOL & Agrifood. During the event, the President of Unaprol, David Granieri presented to the Italian and foreign consumer associations the proposal to review and harmonize the product category of extra virgin olive oil by lowering the acidity level from 0.8% to 0.5%, to increase quality and fight fraud and cheating more effectively.
“We want to build a new cultural model, communicating more and better with consumers, without too many technicalities. It is important to get the message that an oil with an acidity level of 0.8% is not an extra virgin. Let’s start from this and then we’ll do the rest – explained David Granieri, president of Unaprol – The supply chain must have the courage to change, it’s a battle that starts from Italy to regulate a system without control ”.
Oleum Sicilia fully supports this initiative in defense of the quality of Italian oils and above all of the excellence of Sicily PGI extra virgin olive oil. In fact, we were present with our stand in the Unaprol stand to present our high quality products.
